Assistance Dogs of the West is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing medically trained assistance dogs to individuals with disabilities. We are committed to higher standards for training and behavioral care than many other service dog organizations. In addition, we provide extensive follow-up support for each of our clients and their assistance dogs once they are placed together.

We provide service dogs for people who have physical or mental limitations that substantially limit one or more life activities, such as walking, manual tasks, seeing, hearing and working.

Yes. Individuals under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian submit an application on their behalf in order to be considered for placement with an assistance dog.

On average, it takes approximately 8-12 months from the time someone submits an application until they are paired with their very own assistance dog. This process includes selection, training and assessments required by our team before placement occurs.

Absolutely! We are entirely donor funded and rely on the generosity of others in order to continue providing professionally trained assistance dogs to individuals with disabilities in need across all 50 U.S states. Monetary donations can be made online through our website or mailing us directly at our office address provided on our contact page. Donations can also include items from our wish list such as treats, toys and misc health supplies for our puppies in progress.

The cost associated with placing a professionally trained Service Dog into someone’s life can vary significantly depending on individual needs and organization policies;however most agencies pounds ($20-$30K).At ADW we aim to keep expenses low by utilizing volunteer trainers and making sure all necessary health tests have been accomplished prior to placement with a recipient family at no extra cost.

No – While well-socialized pu pets can sometimes accompany adults safely when outside th community that’s not true when it comes to Service Animal work; having two animals working together creates confusion and distracts your pup from its primary responsibility which is following commands that you give it consistently while in public places.
