What does YEG mean in UNCLASSIFIED

YEG stands for Young Explorers Grant which is a research grant designed to enable students aged 18 or under to pursue and achieve their exploration goals. By providing the necessary resources, we hope to engage the next generation of explorers and equip them with the right tools and support to help make their dreams come true.

The YEG program is open to all students aged 18 or under who wish to undertake an exploration project in any field they are passionate about (e.g., astronomy, music, linguistics). There are no geographical boundaries and students from anywhere in the world can apply.

A total of $10,000 USD will be awarded per grant. This includes funds that can be spent on whatever necessary materials or equipment needed for your project, as well as travel expenses (if applicable). The funds must be used within a 12-month period from when the grant is awarded.

Yes! When submitting an application for a Young Explorer Grant (YEG), applicants must provide a detailed plan outlining their proposed project. This should include a description of their objectives; methods used; budget breakdown; potential timeline; anticipated results; potential merit of the research done; and potential impact of study’s findings on wider scientific community (if applicable).

Every year, we award up to five grants depending upon availability of funds and quality of projects submitted by applicants throughout the year.

The selection process involves an extensive review by a committee composed of experts in different fields, who evaluate each proposal based criteria such as originality, creativity, soundness/practicality of methodology proposed by applicant, potential impact/applicability of results obtained etc. Because our goal is to promote scientific excellence among young explorers, preference is given to those proposals that demonstrate clear evidence that applicant has already conducted research in related fields prior to applying for this grant.

No financial information is required when applying for YEG. However, should you be granted this award then payment information may need to provided by successful applicant(s) at that time.

A committee composed of experts in different fields reviews all applications received and makes selection decisions based on score achieved by each individual proposal across criteria established during evaluation process.

Successful applicants must submit quarterly progress reports detailing their activities carried out since last report was submitted as well as bi-annual financial reports detailing how funds allocated were spent over past 6 months period.
