What does SCAC mean in COMMUNITY

SCAC stands for Superintendents Community Advisory Council, which is a group of community members who meet with district officials to discuss and provide input on district-wide initiatives and operations.

The SCAC serves an advisory role by providing insights and information to the superintendent and district administrators about community perspectives on district issues. Members are asked to attend meetings, review materials, offer opinions, or answer questions posed by district staff.

Any interested person from within the school district can join the SCAC – parents of students, employees of the school district, local business leaders, faith leaders, representatives of non-profit organizations and other members of the wider community are all welcome. Participation is voluntary but it is important that all participants be committed to representing their constituencies in a positive way while also seeking out diverse views from within their constituencies.

The SCAC typically meets at least once a month with additional meetings scheduled as needed. The exact dates, times and locations may change depending on scheduling availability and other factors.

Yes – participants should have a genuine interest in supporting the school district's mission and goals as well as a willingness to be an active member over time (as participation requires regular attendance at meetings). It is also important that participants have knowledge of their chosen constituency’s needs/perspectives as well as strong communication skills.

Interested parties should review the membership form on their local school board's website for application instructions. Once submitted, applications will be reviewed by both school board personnel and current members of the council before acceptance into membership occurs.

During each meeting members review agenda items provided by school board staff prior to coming together as a group for discussion. Meeting attendees are expected to contribute meaningful insights during these discussions which include offering suggestions/ideas or sharing information from their respective communities as it relates to council topics. Additionally, there may be short presentations given by guest speakers or small workshops facilitated by guest experts relevant to topics discussed in meetings.

Generally speaking most meetings last between one – two hours depending on how many agenda items require discussion or debate during each meeting session.

Topics discussed within anSC AC meeting vary greatly based on what initiatives are currently being undertaken within the school district such as budget planning or proposed policy changes – however common themes include student learning outcomes, safety & security protocols, special education services and overall student & teacher experience within classrooms across all grade levels.
