What does RTI mean in EDUCATIONAL

Response to Intervention (RTI) is an educational method used to support struggling students while also providing necessary resources and strategies to help them succeed in their studies. RTI emphasizes the importance of early identification and intervention when difficulties are first observed in a student's learning or behavior, so that, with appropriate supports and ongoing assessments, the student can return to typical development.

Response to Intervention helps identify underlying learning issues which may be contributing to a child's academic struggles. By addressing these underlying causes of academic struggle early on with targeted interventions, it can help prevent more serious issues from developing later. RTI also helps ensure that all students receive the interventions they need in order for them to reach their full potential.

In RTI models a three-tier system is often used as framework for delivering services ranging from high-quality instruction and interventions matched academics strengths/needs of groups/individuals at increasing levels of intensity as needed based on teacher observations/data collection within each tier. Tier 1 consists of primary instruction - high quality instruction delivered by regular education teachers focusing on prevention; Tier 2 provides supplemental instruction targeting at-risk students who need additional supports; Tier 3 offers intensive targeted & individualized interventions aimed at helping students make significant progress towards mastery of skills taught during primary instruction & supplemental intervention levels.

Services provided under an RTI framework can be implemented by both regular classroom teachers as well as specialists such as school psychologists or special education teachers depending on the needs of the student.

Data collection plays an essential role in identifying student needs & monitoring progress in responding effectively via RTI model. Data tracked includes formative assessment results/progress monitoring data which support instructional decision making process throughout intervention process & summative assessments evaluated post-intervention (such as state standardized tests).
