What Does RHS Stand For?

RHS stands for Royal Horticultural Society. It is a UK-based charity dedicated to promoting and encouraging horticulture and gardening by providing information, education, events and other resources. It was founded in 1804 and has now grown into one of the largest horticultural organisations in Europe with over 400,000 members.

History

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) was founded on 7 August 1804 by John Wedgwood at a meeting held at Chelsea Physic Garden's library in London. The organisation later moved to its current headquarters at Wisley Garden near Woking in Surrey. Since then it has grown to be one of the most influential organisations advocating for horticulture and supporting avid gardeners with information, education, events and resources. It also holds numerous awards ceremonies which recognise outstanding achievement or contribution to the advancement of horticulture; these are highly sought after accolades among those who have devoted their lives to this field of study or practice. Additionally RHS offers helping hands with its Expert Advisory Service which offers advice on plant growing problems from experts with many years’ experience in this area.

Activities

The Royal Horticultural Society mainly focuses on three main areas – education & training; activities & campaigns; science & research – all designed to promote horticulture throughout Britain .The RHS provides events for both casual enthusiasts (such as Gardeners’ World Live) alongside more intensively focused programmes (including RHS Masterclasses). Through its outreach efforts it reaches out to young people through initiatives such as School Gardening Clubs which allow children aged 4-18 years old to learn about plants while having fun outside planting flowers or playing games like veggie snakes & ladders!
