What does ABB mean in POLITICS

The Anybody But Boxer movement (ABB) is a campaign that was created to unseat then-incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer from her seat in the United States Senate. This effort was largely spearheaded by grassroots activists, who believed that a new candidate would better represent their values and be better suited to effect positive change in their local communities.

As more and more activists joined forces to oppose the reelection of Senator Boxer, they used social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to garner support for their cause. They also organized rallies and events throughout California, which eventually resulted in over 100,000 signatures being gathered via petitions circulated around the state.

ABB activists advocated for policies that would bring about greater economic prosperity in California, such as investment into small businesses, increased funding for public education, expanded healthcare coverage, reform of the criminal justice system, environmental protection measures and strengthening immigration enforcement laws.

Notable politicians that aligned with this movement included former state senator Tom McClintock, former US representative Bill Thomas and current governor Jerry Brown. Additionally, several California initiatives and referendums also received support from this coalition during election cycles - such as Proposition 8 in 2008 which limited same-sex marriage rights.

In response to this challenge posed to her incumbency by ABB activists throughout California, Senator Barbara Boxer adopted more progressive stances on various issues during her campaign leading up to Election Day 2010. This included her strong opposition to offshore drilling near Santa Barbara County which she declared in July of that year.

Yes – despite all efforts made by ABB activists across the state – Sen. Barbara Boxer was able to narrowly defeat her Republican challenger Carly Fiorina in November 2010 with 52% of votes cast for her re-election bid.
