The Ohio International Consortium (OIC) is a network of institutions dedicated to promoting global studies and international education in Ohio. The OIC was established in 1991 by representatives from universities, two-year colleges, secondary schools, and other educational organizations. Its primary purpose is to provide a forum for sharing information, programs, and resources related to intercultural experiences for students and professionals.

The OIC covers a wide range of topics including international education, cross-cultural understanding, language learning, study abroad programs, immigration issues, world cultures and religions. It also provides professional development opportunities for educators through workshops and conferences on various topics related to international education.

The OIC provides support to educators through its website where they can access resources such as professional development opportunities, teaching materials about world cultures and religions, grants and funding sources for study abroad programs, links to webinars on current issues related to intercultural communication/experience, articles on best practices in the field of intercultural competence/awareness etc. Additionally it offers workshops and conferences at which speakers present their research findings or share practical tips and strategies with educators.

An institution may join the OIC by becoming either an associate or full member. Full membership requires that an institution must have an active program in international studies or provide specific training in these areas; agree to abide by the mission statement of the consortium; nominate a representative who will represent them at meetings; pay dues; participate actively in one or more committees or special projects; attend annual meetings; serve as a resource person when requested; contribute relevant information about its program(s); propose necessary changes or improvements according to changing conditions within international higher education.

The Steering Committee consists of representatives from each of its members—universities, two-year colleges, secondary schools—who oversee all activities within the organization. The Committee’s responsibilities include planning events such as conferences/workshops as well as acting as mediators whenever disputes arise among members regarding any matters related to this consortium.

Yes there are dues required by members depending on type (Full vs Associate membership). For full membership institutions must pay $250 per year while associate members will be charged only $100 per year.

Yes there are several scholarships available through the OIC for incoming freshman students whose families have had financial difficulties due to job loss resulting from economic downturns caused by pandemics like COVID-19. These scholarships cover not only tuition but also room & board expenses while attending college.
