What does AB mean in TURKISH

The European Union is an economic and political union of 28 Member States that are located primarily in Europe. It covers a population of more than 500 million people, and has developed a single market where goods, services, capital and labour move freely. It also ensures that its citizens have the right to live, work and study in any EU Member State.

The European Union works to promote peace, democracy and human rights, as well as maintaining the single market by introducing common standards for products and services. The institution has exclusive competences in areas such as competition policy, foreign policy, consumer protection and environmental protection. Additionally, it provides economic assistance to its poorer members through structural funds.

The European Union is governed by seven institutions; these include the European Parliament which represents EU citizens directly; the Council of Ministers which legislates on behalf of Member States; the European Commission which implements legislation agreed on by other institutions; as well as four other agencies such as the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Most decisions taken by all institutions are based on consensus among member states. There are several different procedures used for decision-making including majority votes between member states or a qualified majority vote between member states depending on the issue being addressed. Similarly, when issues concerning global issues arise among member states there may be need to consult with non-EU countries too.

Enlargement refers to adding new members to existing ones in order to increase membership numbers or otherwise expand influence within Europe. This is done through negotiations with prospective countries who wish to become members managed by both an enlarged Commission and Council of Ministers respectively.

Turkey has been negotiating for full membership into the EU since 2005 but so far progress remains slow due to objections from some EU countries over its potential accession terms or related matters concerning Turkish domestic politics or other similar concerns.

At present there are 24 official languages recognized within all EU Institutions with English, French and German as three primary working language across most departments; however national governments can still implement certain laws regarding cultural or language rights for their citizens.
