What does NDA mean in FARMING & AGRICULTURE

Mission and Goals

The mission of the NDA is to protect consumers by regulating businesses that produce, market and distribute food, feed, seed and other products associated with agriculture; identify consumer needs; provide educational opportunities that support economic growth; promote issues that benefit producers; ensure access to safe food supply; and protect natural resources. To achieve this goal, the NDA has three priority areas: consumer protection, economic development and natural resource management. Its vision is for a safe and secure food system, healthy environment, vibrant economy and strong communities built on agricultural values.

Programs and Services

The NDA administers more than 40 programs geared toward protecting consumers from fraud or misrepresentation in both products and services related to agriculture. These programs include licensing requirements for various agricultural products such as seeds, feed additives, pesticides, animal drugs as well as issuing permits for such activities as hazardous waste disposal or operating a greenhouse business. The NDA also offers educational programs designed to help producers improve their production systems while maintaining their environmental stewardship responsibilities. Additionally, it provides assistance with crop insurance plans for farmers who have suffered losses due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters or price changes in commodities markets.
