What does LFN mean in NETWORKING

Linux Foundation Networking (LFN) is an umbrella organization dedicated to creating high-quality, open source networking projects which are governed in a collaborative manner. The goal of LFN is to provide the resources, support and infrastructure needed to make open networking technologies more accessible and easier to manage.

By fostering collaboration between dozens of business and technology companies, the LFN has become a catalyst for greater innovation in the open source networking sphere. The unified voice among these groups helps drive projects forward faster, with improved stability and reliability when compared to proprietary solutions.

There are a variety of ways you can get involved with the LFN. You can review and propose changes to project documentation, participate in discussions during LFN-organized events and summits, or even join a mentorship program. You can also write code or submit bug reports directly through various project pages hosted on GitHub or other code hosting platforms.

Most of the support offered by LFN comes from its members. These members include leading technology companies such as IBM, Alcatel-Lucent, Red Hat and Intel who pool together their resources by contributing code updates, providing support for open source projects hosted on GitHub or other systems, answering questions posed on mailing lists or participating in formal release cycles for projects like OpenDaylight.

The governing body of LFN consists of three primary groups; the Board which sets technical direction; an Executive Leadership team made up of members from each company; and Technical Oversight Committees which provide guidance on issues related to specific technologies such as software defined networks (SDN). All major decisions are ultimately approved by this governing body before they become effective within the organization.

The main purpose of LFN is to foster collaborative development and adoption across member organizations’ technical communities.
