What does AAM mean in ASSOCIATIONS

The Association for Accessible Medicines (AAM) is a nonprofit organization that works to make medications affordable and accessible to all. AAM advocates for legislative, industrial, and other solutions that will help lower health care costs.

The AAM welcomes individuals and organizations from diverse backgrounds and perspectives who share the common goal of expanding access to medical treatments. This includes but is not limited to patient groups, caregivers, healthcare professionals, academic institutions, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, government agencies, charitable foundations, trade associations, insurance providers and others.

The AAM works with stakeholders across industries to identify areas of opportunity where collaborative action can result in more affordable medications. Specifically, we focus our research on policy reforms that will increase competition within the generic drug market which reduces prices for consumers. We also collaborate with key stakeholders on research initiatives such as improving delivery models or increasing the use of generics when clinically appropriate. Finally, we work with policymakers at state and federal levels on reforms that would create local transparency mechanisms so consumers can compare prices between pharmacy outlets more easily.

Our most ambitious program is our Global Access Initiative which helps facilitate global access to safe medicines for those living in low-income countries who cannot afford them locally or through international aid programs. We also support educational initiatives here in the United States designed to raise awareness about prescription drug affordability issues among both patients and healthcare providers.

Yes! The charitable contributions received by the AAM are used for activities such as public health education campaigns related to prescription drug affordability, research into new strategies for lowering prices, projects supporting regulatory reform efforts at state and federal level and collaborations with other organizations working towards a similar mission.

At this time there are no grant or scholarship programs available through the AAM. However we do have select partnerships with universities both domestic and abroad aimed at fostering further collaboration between researchers working on solutions related to medication affordability.
