What does AGE mean in ENVIRONMENTAL

AGE stands for Asian Gorillas Environment and is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of Asian gorillas.

The main goal of AGE is to protect gorillas and their habitats through research, education, advocacy, and community engagement. Additionally, it seeks to provide sustainable livelihoods for local communities and develop partnerships with local governments and other stakeholders.

In order to achieve its goals, AGE conducts research on the population dynamics of gorillas in Asia; provides knowledge about gorilla ecology and distribution; develops educational programs; advocates for policies that protect gorilla species; supports community efforts for conservation-based development;and engages in forestry monitoring initiatives.

Local communities are engaged in all levels of work conducted by AGE including financial support from international donors as well as technical assistance from locals themselves that helps identify potential threats against the species protected by the organization. This can include offering alternative livelihoods such as ecotourism which helps bring economic benefits while still allowing populations of gorillas to remain protected.
