What does DLF mean in FUNNIES

Derby Lunatic Fringe (DLF) is a roller derby league in Vancouver, Canada. It was established in 2010 and has over 50 members who are passionate about the sport of Roller Derby. DLF is part of the WFTDA (Women's Flat Track Derby Association) and competes against teams from all over the world.

Anyone aged 18 or older who has an interest in learning how to play roller derby can join DLF! You don't need any prior experience with skating as they offer a variety of beginner-level classes for those just starting out.

Joining DLF gives you access to a great network of experienced skaters and referees who can help you learn how to skate safely and confidently. Additionally, by being part of the league, you will have opportunities to compete in tournaments and travel around to different cities for games. Finally, being part of a grassroots organization like this one can be challenging but also incredibly rewarding!

When playing roller derby it is essential that you have the proper safety gear including helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and mouth guard. In addition, you will also need quad roller skates with wheels suited for outdoors (if you plan on practicing outdoors).

Yes. As part of your membership fee to join DLF as an active skater or referee you will have to pay a registration fee which covers league costs such as insurance, equipment maintenance as well as providing events throughout the year for our members. There may also be additional fees associated with bouts and tournaments if you choose to participate in those activities outside of practice sessions.

At DLF we offer a variety of skill specific practices such as jamming drills and blocking technique clinics which focus on helping our members develop their skills for game play. We also hold regular off-skate fitness classes which help keep our members moving even when they're not actively skating. Finally, we provide mentorship programs so that newer members can get advice from more seasoned players about roller derby strategies and tips!

No! While competitive leagues such as ours strive to compete at all levels we recognize that not everyone who joins us wants or needs that type of pressure; joining DLF does not require participation in bouts or tournaments - only those interested in competing do so.

Yes - anyone wishing to join must be at least 18 years old before they become eligible.

Absolutely! We welcome male spectators at all events whether it’s cheering on their favourite team from behind the glass at bouts or attending one our public scrimmages open to everyone. They’re also welcome at practice sessions but are encouraged not to skate unless specifically invited by a teammate.
