Chicky Hearn (real name Edward J. Hearn) was a professional American basketball announcer, best known for his long-running stints as the voice of the Los Angeles Lakers from 1965-2002. He also called NFL and college football games, including the Rose Bowl for many years. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

During his lengthy career, Chicky Hearn established himself as one of the preeminent sports announcers in America. He won Emmy Awards for both play-by-play and documentary work, made multiple appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and received numerous awards from various sportscasting organizations. In 2006, he became the first ever member of the Basketball Hall of Fame who wasn't a player or coach.

Chicky Hearn was well known amongst Laker players due to his enthusiasm in describing their plays and overall excitement towards the game. His hard work ethic and passion for basketball gained him recognition within the league; many former Lakers fondly remember hearing his signature "Chick-y Chick-y" call after big plays or shots made by Lakers stars throughout their decades together in Los Angeles.

Chicky Hearn was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006, becoming its first ever member who was neither a player nor a coach.

In addition to working extensively as an NBA announcer, particularly with the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicky Hearn also provided commentary for NFL and college football games throughout his career; he famously called seven Rose Bowls between 1979–1985.

During his lifetime,Chicky Hear won four Emmy Awards - two each for play by play and documentary work - along with honors from several sportscasting organizations such as Screen Actors Guild Sports Emmy Award (1983), LA Sports Council Broadcaster of Year (1996), and other accolades including being named National Sportscaster Of The Year (1978).

Edward's nickname "Chick" came about when he was growing up - it's believed that one day while playing baseball with friends, Edward hit a particularly good shot that earned him praise from his peers - they shouted out "That's Chick!" Later on that same day however someone had misspelled it down to 'Chic', which eventually evolved into 'Chick' over time - thus giving birth to what would become Eddie's lasting nickname - 'Chick' aka 'Chicky'.

Those close to him knew that when excited Eddie often moved around quickly like a chicken flapping its wings while talking. His enthusiasm from these movement earned him yet another nickname ‘The Chicken Man’ or simply ‘Chicken’ amongst colleagues and friends alike.
