What does CCSC mean in SCHOOLS

The Community Charter School of Cambridge (CCSC) is a K-8 public charter school located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. CCSC uses an innovative, integrated curriculum focused on literacy and inclusivity to ensure all students achieve their full potential. CCSC offers a personalized learning experience for each student, drawing on the resources within the city of Cambridge to create a vibrant learning environment.

Admission to CCSC is open to all students living in the City of Cambridge who will be entering Kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2021. While there are no academic requirements for admission, preference will be given to those who demonstrate commitment to and engagement with community building activities or programming.

CCSC offers a variety of courses ranging from traditional core subjects such as math and science, to interdisciplinary classes covering topics like robotics and media arts. Additionally, we offer elective courses that reflect our commitment to providing a progressive culturally relevant education.

At CCSC, we believe that assessment should be ongoing throughout the learning process rather than through a single test at the end. We make use of multiple formative assessments such as portfolios, projects, reflections and presentations so that teachers can check student progress throughout their studies and tailor instruction accordingly. Summative assessments are used occasionally when needed for accountability purposes or post-secondary planning.

Yes! In addition to our core curriculum offerings, CCSC offers several enrichment programs including afterschool opportunities like robotics clubs and cooking classes; overnight trips; field studies; extended day learning opportunities; and partnerships with local organizations like parks & recreation departments or libraries to extend our educational outreach beyond campus walls.

Absolutely! At CCSC we recognize that involvement in extracurricular activities enhances a student’s educational experience by providing them with possible career pathways while developing life skills such as integrity, communication, collaboration and problem-solving abilities. We offer activities such as music ensembles; athletics teams; robotics clubs; chess club; Model UN team; gardening club; book clubs & literary circles as well as drama clubs and theater productions -- just to name a few!

At CCSC we strive for equity in education through our commitment to creating an inclusive environment guided by what we call “intersectionality” which encourages mutual respect between different racial/ethnic groups or cultures while allowing each individual’s unique characteristics -- including physical abilities & economic backgrounds --to shine through within our community values system.

We value meaningful family engagement at every level from classroom visits & parent/teacher conferences by appointment or drop-in options available throughout the year depending on grade level needs & expectations - all the way up through advisory councils & town hall meetings hosted regularly which allow us strengthen relationships between staff & parents.
