What does CPO mean in CANADIAN

The Canadian Passport Order (CPO) is an order issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs under the authority of the Canadian Passport Act. This order allows for the issuance, denial, suspension and revocation of Canadian passports to all citizens, permanent residents and non-residents.

The Canadian Passport Order was created in order to ensure that all Canadian citizens, permanent residents and non-residents are able to access their passport services in a timely manner. It also ensures that those who do not meet certain criteria are not given preferential treatment when applying for a passport.

All Canadian citizens, permanent residents and non-residents are eligible to apply for a passport under the CPO. However, any applicant must meet all requirements as set out in section 7 of the CPO in order to be eligible for a passport.

Applicants cannot make false statements or omissions on their application form, must provide their true identity documents, must fulfil residency requirements and cannot have any outstanding criminal or travel restrictions imposed on them by any government body.

If an individual does not comply with all requirements as set out in section 7 of the CPO then their application for a passport will be denied or revoked.

Depending on current processing times and other factors such as document requirements, it can take up to 12 weeks to process an application filed under the CPO.
