What does AMEA mean in CIVIC & MUNICIPAL

The Alberta Municipal Enforcement Association works in partnership with communities to make roads and public areas safer by providing education, enforcement, and problem-solving activities. We focus on making our streets and sidewalks more friendly, safe places for people to walk or bike through initiatives such as Bicycle Empowerment, Community Policing, Public Art Installations and Festivals. Additionally, we prioritize crime prevention strategies over reactive tactics. Through these efforts, we strive to reduce traffic collisions, pedestrian injuries, bike thefts and other crimes in order to help make our homes a safe and enjoyable place to live.

AMEA provides a variety of services including education programs for municipal law enforcement personnel; technical assistance for the development of policies and procedures; consultation on new technology and equipment purchases; research and evaluation on municipal law enforcement issues; support for intergovernmental partnerships that improve public safety; training related to community policing initiatives; coordination of mutual aid arrangements with other agencies; guidance for crime prevention protocols; facilitation of forums to share best practices in municipal law enforcement; advocacy support on key social justice issues impacting enforcement departments; as well as information sharing amongst all members.

Membership is open to any municipality or region located within the Province of Alberta that has an established governance structure for municipal bylaw or peace officer services.
