What does AAAC mean in STATE & LOCAL

The purpose of the AAAC is to offer advice and guidance to elected officials on issues that impact the African American community in Seattle. This includes providing resources and creating space for African Americans in their city.

The AAAC consists of up to nine volunteer members appointed by the mayor and confirmed by City Council. All members must be registered voters or permanent residents of Seattle and have a demonstrated commitment to making positive changes for Seattle's African American population.

The AAAC works closely with other government agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and neighborhood organizations to promote better economic opportunities, public safety initiatives, social services, education programs, health initiatives, and more within Seattle's African American community. The commission also advocates for policies that promote racial equity in all parts of their city.

There are several ways you can get involved with or support the AAAC. You can attend meetings to stay informed on current issues, join task force committees or workgroups specific projects, provide written comments on issues discussed at meetings, submit applications when there are openings for board positions and volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Financial donations are also accepted as another way to support the work that they do.
