What does AAAC mean in COUNCIL

The Athens Area Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote, support, provide and advocate for the arts in the greater Athens area. We are committed to fostering an environment of creativity, innovation and collaboration between artists and cultural organizations in our community.

There are many ways to get involved! You can make a financial contribution, volunteer as an artist or mentor for our programs, join a committee, attend events or just spread the word about what we are doing! We host many exciting events throughout the year that draw people from all over the area! Our annual summer celebration includes art exhibits, live music and performances by local artists and organizations as well as hands-on workshops and activities. We also host monthly open mic nights and discussions with guest speakers to help foster creative dialogue.

Yes – we offer both paid internships and volunteer positions that allow students from all backgrounds to gain experience working with a non-profit organization focused on advocating for local culture and creativity. We offer many exciting programs designed to support local artists including workshops for both adults and children, mentorship opportunities, grants for artistic projects, educational outreach initiatives such as panel discussions and field trips as well storytelling classes for children ages 5-10 years old.

Grants are awarded twice a year; applications open mid April each year until June 1st when they close again until late fall when they reopen again until January 1st when they close again until April 1st when they reopen once more each calendar year round out in June 1st. All donations made directly to AAAC go towards supporting our mission of promoting creativity within the greater Athens area by funding various arts projects across disciplines including special needs art initiatives, music education programs,and outdoor mural installations regardless if it’s organized through 706WORKS Co., Creative Community Impact or Envision Creative Solutions.
