What does ALAN mean in LOGISTICS

American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting companies with excess inventory or production capacity to those in need of relief supplies and services.

ALAN works by bringing together private sector resources and expertise with public-sector relief organizations. Private sector partners provide goods, services, and other resources that help relief agencies meet the needs of individuals and communities affected by disasters. ALAN’s experienced staff coordinate the critical link between corporate donors and government response agencies.

Organizations that partner with ALAN benefit from a national network of logistics and supply chain professionals who can help facilitate donations of material, products, money, equipment, personnel resources at a discounted rate or for free. This helps to reduce long-term costs associated with responding to disasters while also increasing preparedness capabilities and expanding partnerships between emergency responders and the private sector.

To get involved with ALAN, you can either donate or volunteer your expertise as a logistics professional. As a donor, you can contribute cash or in-kind goods such as items needed for disaster response like nonperishable foods, toiletries, bottled water, medical supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), etc. If you have logistics expertise available then you can volunteer your time by joining ALAN’s National Supply Chain Leadership Team or providing support on individual projects as requested by our staff.

ALAN accepts both cash and in-kind donations for disaster relief efforts. In-kind donations may include nonperishable foods, toiletries, bottled water, medical supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), building materials such as plywood & lumber for temporary shelters & debris removal for rebuilding after disasters occur etc.

Yes! To join ALAN’s National Supply Chain Leadership Team you must have prior supply chain/logistics experience (at least five years). For individual project roles there is no proven experience required but strong communication skills are essential in order to effectively relay critical information during the relief process. Also important are an understanding of common industry terms & processes used within the logistics industry when responding to disasters.

No - all participation is voluntary and free of charge. There may be some cost associated if members decide to use their own supply chain infrastructure when delivering goods/services depending on how far they are willing to ship/drive donated items.

Yes – You may certainly donate items yourself instead through American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN). However it is important to note that provided these types of donations follow all pre established guidelines & processes which ensure that these items reach those most in need during times of disaster quickly & securely.
