What does ACAT mean in MILITARY

AECAT is a specialized medical team comprised of medically trained personnel that assist with the evacuation of patients via air transport. These teams often accompany U.S. military medevac flights to provide additional medical care en-route.

An AECAT typically consists of medical professionals such as medical doctors, nurses, flight paramedics and respiratory therapists who have received specialized training in the management and treatment of aeromedical evacuations.

AECAT personnel are trained to provide basic trauma stabilization for critically injured patients, as well as manage on-board treatments for common medical issues such as cardiac arrhythmias, shock or hypothermia. They can also help support life-saving procedures in-flight including cardiac defibrillation and advanced airway management.

While the primary focus of an AECAT is en route patient care during a medevac flight, they can also be utilized to support ground emergency responses if needed. This may include resuscitation activities at accident scenes or managing acute injuries in areas where regular emergency services are not available.

It depends upon mission requirements and availability of personnel but generally speaking there would be multiple deployments throughout the year when required by U.S military forces or in support of other humanitarian relief efforts

The particular aircraft chosen will depend on mission requirements but typically these teams utilize fixed-wing planes equipped with state-of-the-art lifesaving equipment including ventilators, onboard intensive care units (ICU), defibrillators and other necessary technology depending upon missions needs.
