What Does FMOA Mean?

FMOA stands for the Fiji Ministry Of Agriculture, an organization established by the government of Fiji to provide support and resources to farmers and livestock producers on the islands. The ministry works with agricultural universities, agricultural scientists, extension officers and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture and combat food insecurity in the country. It also works with international organizations such as FAO, World Bank, IFAD alongside cooperatives and private sector partners to ensure that all aspects of agricultural production are taken into account while determining policies and strategies for improved food security in the nation.

Mission

The mission of FMOA is to provide agricultural commodities at an affordable price for both domestic and foreign consumers and achieve improved food security by taking into consideration all aspects of agricultural production including land tenure systems, market participation, inputs availability among others. The organization promotes crop diversification as well as improved management practices through research and development so that farmers can practice sustainable farming while conserving natural resources. The ministry also provides capacity building programs for farmers in order to increase their technical knowledge so that they can make better use of their resources.

Role Of FMOA In Promoting Sustainable Food Security

FMOA plays an important role in promoting sustainable food security in Fiji by investing in research and development activities aimed at improving farming practices such as water management, crop diversification etc. The organisation helps smallholder farmers by providing financial services so that they can access credit easily as well as technical assistance which help them make informed decisions about their land use decisions. Additionally, FMOA provides markets access support to farmers who often do not have direct access to markets due their location or lack of resources. Finally, FMOA helps improve soil health through initiatives such as provision of organic manure which leads to increased productivity.
