The Bioactive Discovery and Development Group (BDDG) is a research group focused on the discovery of bioactive compounds with potential therapeutic benefits. Our team of scientists use cutting-edge technology to screen for these compounds and explore their therapeutic effects.

Bioactives are natural or synthetic compounds with biological activities. These can be derived from plants, animals, bacteria and fungi, as well as other sources such as chemical synthesis. Many different types of bioactives have been identified and studied for their potential therapeutic effects.

Our research helps to identify potential new drugs or therapies through the screening of natural products and other compounds for bioactivity. We also evaluate existing medicines to understand their efficacy, safety, and formulation options in order to develop novel treatments for unmet medical needs.

BDDG makes use of a variety of sophisticated techniques for its research including High Throughput Screening (HTS), Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry (MS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR), X-ray Crystallography, In silico Modelling, Cell Culture Assays, Metabolomics/ Lipidomics amongst others.

We currently feature two key collaboration models - an Open Access Research Program which offers access to our extensive library of proprietary molecules and platforms; and a more mutually beneficial Strategic Collaboration Program where both parties work together to develop strategies that yield the best outcomes in terms of quality results and competitive turnaround times.

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the major challenges we face today when it comes to combating infectious diseases. To address this growing issue at the source level, BDDG has developed a focused AMR screening program by leveraging our existing library of compounds coupled with dedicated molecular biology techniques like whole genome sequencing that detect mutations associated with resistance against antibiotics.
