What does BPAR mean in FOSTER & ADOPTION

Boston Post Adoption Resources (BPAR) is a non-profit organization that provides families with support, education, and advocacy services for adoption and foster care in Massachusetts. The mission of BPAR is to create a safe space where all members of the adoption triad (birth parent, adoptee, and adoptive family) can find acceptance and healing.

BPAR offers a variety of services to help individuals navigate the complexities of adoption and foster care. These services include individual therapy or group counseling, case management, help with accessing legal resources and supports for birth parents, workshops for adoptive families, advocacy for adoptees, social events for all members of the adoption triad, and more.

Most of BPAR's services are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale based on each family's financial situation. Some insurance plans may also cover certain costs associated with individual therapy or group counseling sessions.

Yes. In addition to providing counseling services and other supports to adoptees and their families, BPAR also helps birth parents reunite with their children through its Reunification Program. This program works diligently to ensure that birth parents are able to participate fully in the lives of their adopted children if they wish to do so.

No. The Reunification Program is offered free of charge; this includes all necessary travel expenses as well as any other costs related to contact between biological parents and children who have been adopted out of state or overseas.

BPAR can provide advice about navigating the legal system surrounding adoptions but does not provide legal representation itself. However, we offer referrals to attorneys who specialize in adoptions as well as other community resources who may be able to assist you.

Yes! We offer various workshops specifically designed for adoptive families covering topics such as understanding attachment difficulties associated with trauma-informed parenting skills when raising an adopted child or teen; developing healthy communication strategies within your family dynamic; managing grief throughout the long-term process involved in adopting; celebrating cultural diversity within your family; finding effective ways for dealing with challenging behaviors; connecting with community supports available; etcetera.

We offer both virtual and in-person support groups for adults facing issues related to adoption or foster care including finding connection after disconnection (parenting after loss), pre/post-adoptive/foster care stress groups (for those considering or currently undergoing this process), grieving losses duedto adoption/fostering (for those experiencing loss related issues), reclaiming identity after reunification (for those processing reunionafter separation from adoptive placements), single/same sex couples coping with infertility & seeking alternative options like fostering/adopting). Additionally there are various youth specific support groups covering topics such as making sense of change & transition experiences throughout adolescence while utilizing peer support networks.
