What Is NPFO?

NPFO stands for New Parent and Family Orientation. This orientation program offers an introduction to college life for parents, guardians, and other family members of incoming freshmen. The primary goal of NPFO is to equip families with the knowledge they need about a college campus before sending their student into such an unfamiliar environment. It provides families with information regarding on-campus resources such as counseling services, safety initiatives, study abroad programs and more. Additionally, it gives family members insight into what types of activities are available on campus and in surrounding areas so that they can guide their student’s interests in finding extracurricular activities that will help them make friends and explore their passions even further.

What Do Participants Get Out Of NPFO?

By attending an NPFO event, participants have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of what college life looks like from both the faculty/administration perspective as well as from experienced students who have already been through this process successfully themselves. In addition, during these sessions schools often offer seminars designed specifically for parents which allow them to ask questions to university staff about topics such as financial aid or housing options without fear or judgment from outside parties like current roommates or dormmates. Finally, at most orientations there are activities planned that give family members a chance to bond with one another over shared experiences such as theme parks or nearby tourist attractions while still remaining within reasonable driving distance from campus if needed during the school year.
