What does AEC mean in THERAPY

Ambulatory Emergency Care, or AEC, is a service provided by healthcare professionals to those in need of immediate medical care. It involves providing treatment and support on an outpatient basis, meaning patients can receive the same standards of care as they would if they were admitted to a hospital, but within the confines of their home or other sites. AEC teams are able to diagnose and treat many acute illnesses and injuries at any given time.

Ambulatory Emergency Care works by having a team of healthcare professionals available to respond quickly when needed. The team typically includes nurses, paramedics and doctors who are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide medical treatments for patients with urgent conditions. The team will assess the patient upon arrival and provide appropriate medical care including diagnostic tests, medication administration, wound management, etc.

Anyone who requires urgent medical attention outside of an emergency room may be eligible for ambulatory emergenyc care. This could include people suffering from minor conditions such as sprains or influenza-like symptoms as well as more severe issues like chest pain or high fever. Patients must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for AEC services including age nor any pre-existing medical conditions that could affect their ability to receive treatment.

Ambulatory Emergency Care provides a range of services which may include diagnostics testing (e.g., X-rays), prescription medications, wound management/staging, intravenous therapy, transportation between hospitals if needed, triage assessment/referral determination to more appropriate specialized hospitals or facilities if necessary and follow up visits after discharge from AEC site (if applicable).
