The Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) is a state-of-the-art survey of the night sky focusing on the discovery, measurement and classification of astronomical events that occur outside our Solar System.

ZTF employs a wide field camera mounted onto the 48 inch Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory in California.It scans large areas of the night sky every several nights in order to spot any changes in brightness from one night to another — this allows it to detect transients such as supernovae, asteroids passing near Earth, flares from stars and other celestial phenomena.
