History

Beijing Capital Airport was founded in 1958 as Beijing Nanyuan Airport, with flights operated by both military and civilian aircrafts. In 1972, it became an official port of entry for international flights and renamed to its present name Beijing Capital International Airport. The airport has since undergone several expansions to accommodate its growing number of travelers and larger jets. In 2008, it opened a third runway accommodating up to 65 flight movements per hour and a fourth runway is currently under construction.
