How does YTY work?
YTY works by educating and engaging young people in prevention efforts through trainings, conferences and other events. We also provide students with the skills they need to successfully lead their peers in making positive choices. The result is that young people become empowered as leaders within their own school or community and start initiating positive change.
What services does YTY provide?
YTY provides a range of services including student-led education programs in local schools; peer-to-peer education workshops; prevention conferences across the United States; technical assistance for organizations looking to implement peer-to-peer programs; advocacy initiatives such as our annual “March Against Substance Abuse†event on Capitol Hill; resources for parents and families; annual student exchange trips abroad for advanced leadership development training; online learning opportunities such as webinars; and more.
Are there any requirements for joining Youth to Youth?
Yes! To join YTY, you must be between the ages of 13 and 20, complete a membership form, attend orientation sessions, abide by the YTY Code of Conduct, volunteer at least 15 hours per month, exhibit leadership qualities that are conducive to promoting healthy lifestyle choices among your peers, remain drug-, alcohol-, and tobacco-free while participating in all activities or events related to YTY, complete all provided educational program curriculum (if applicable), submit paperwork on time when required (e.g., travel forms), use proper language and behavior when representing the organization in public forums (online or offline), read all emails from staff promptly, follow all program rules set forth by staff members or coordinators of any affiliate chapter/site/event/programs where applicable.
How can I become involved with YTY?
You can get involved with YTY by attending one of our orientation sessions near you or online via our webinar series (available on our website). Once you become a member we offer numerous ways to get involved including working on student councils at your local school chapter or being part of national committees preparing for annual events like March Against Substance Abuse Day on Capitol Hill. You can also volunteer at various social awareness events throughout the year or have conversations about drugs & alcohol with younger students through our ambassador program - the possibilities are endless!
Does YTY offer internships?
Yes! We offer unpaid summertime internships where participants gain valuable experience working closely with professional staff members while developing important skills in event management, non-profit operations & business essentials. All internship positions require a minimum commitment of 8 weeks at 25+ hours per week & may include travel (~5 days each month). Applicants must submit an application along with a cover letter / resume before they will be considered for an internship position.
Is there financial aid available if I want to attend a conference?
Yes! Through generous support from foundations & individuals we offer scholarships to help offset costs associated with attending YTY conferences across the United States each year. Please note that scholarships are limited based on availability & priority consideration is given to those who submit applications before deadlines indicated on our website (www.youthtoyouth.org).
