What type of misperceptions about national democracy does YND seek to dispel?
We seek to dispel the notion that national democracy is only relevant or understood through traditional forms of politics like electoral systems or governing bodies -national democratization goes beyond this - it must include proactive ways for citizens not only engage but actively shape what their governments do. Similarly we challenge narrow definitions on what democracy is focusing instead on decentralizing power within systems so all voices can be heard -not just those afforded institutional access.
How does YND involve marginalized communities when advocating for more democratic societies?
We recognize that certain voices tend bias power dynamics which can prevent meaningful representation from occurring – whether determined by gender identity, socio-economic status or geography but particularly within underdeveloped nations suffering from conflict –so through our programming we prioritize providing access opportunities such as internships/fellowships/apprenticeships..etc key decision making forums normally inaccessible due lack resources or connections while also equipping them via virtual knowledge resources tailored towards developing necessary skillsets.
