What does WVAC mean in ASTRONOMY

The West Valley Astronomy Club (WVAC) is an organization dedicated to the advancement of the science, history and experience of astronomy. It provides its members with educational lectures, star parties and other activities aimed at deepening their knowledge and appreciation of our night sky.

By joining WVAC, you gain access to a network of experienced astronomers that can help guide your journey as a stargazer. Members have access to special discounts on astronomy-related gear, free use of specialized equipment at club meetings, invitations to exclusive events and more.

The frequency of meetings varies based on certain criteria such as weather conditions, availability of speakers or topics being discussed. Generally speaking however,, WVAC meets once per month with occasional additional meetings when big astronomical events are due to take place.

Everyone is invited to join! Whether you're a casual stargazer or an experienced astrophotographer — all are welcome at WVAC meetings. No prior knowledge or experience is required; just an enthusiasm for learning more about astronomy!

Yes! Annual membership fees start at $30 for individuals and $40 for families/groups. These fees cover operating costs as well as some fun perks for members such as special discounts on select products and services in the local area.

All ages are welcome at most activities with some exceptions - underage guests must be accompanied by an adult during star party events, for example - but age restrictions may apply when it comes to certain activities such as telescope making workshops where parental guidance may be required for children under 16 years old.

Yes! The club has a selection of telescopes available for members' use during meetings, including reflectors, refractors and even GoTo motorized scopes. Please check with the club organizer before each meeting to see which telescopes will be available that day.

While we don't officially rent out equipment from the club, we do host regular “gear swap” nights where members can buy or sell used gear amongst themselves in a safe (and legal) environment. In addition, many independent vendors attend our meetings offering rental options on their own equipment if needed. There may be rental fees associated with these rentals so please check ahead time before making any decisions.

Absolutely! Some members prefer taking pictures over watching through their telescope eyepieces so cameras are allowed (and encouraged!) during our private sessions outside city lights away from light pollution sources so visitors can get optimal results while imaging celestial objects in their night sky explorations.
