WUWU's Mission

WUWU seeks to create a space for girls and women to feel heard, respected, and accepted. They strive to foster strong female relationships built on positive communication and mutual respect. By emphasizing team economics as well as spirit of the game values, WUWU encourages team members to work together and build a supportive community. What is WUWU?

WUWU stands for Washington University Women's Ultimate, an ultimate frisbee team for female college students at Washington University in St. Louis.

Who can join WUWU?

Any female student at Washington University can join the team. There are also opportunities to participate in tryouts and clinics if you are not a student at Washington University.

What is ultimate frisbee?

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport played by two teams on a field with end zones, similar to American football. Each team passes the disc with the goal of scoring points by catching it in their opponent's end zone. It is a high-energy, fast-paced game that combines elements of running, agility, strategy, sportsmanship and athleticism.

What type of commitment does WUWU require?

We require members to attend most practices and competitions throughout the year. Practices usually occur twice per week and tournaments occur once or twice every month during our fall and spring seasons. We also require members to make certain contributions in order to maintain the organization's activities (e.g., volunteer hours).

Does playing on WUWU cost anything?

Yes — we ask players to contribute $25 per semester or $50 per season which covers practice space rental fees as well as tournament entry fees around the region and occasional travel related costs such as gas money for driver reimbursement or hotel rooms when necessary. This amount may change based on individual circumstances and will always be communicated well in advance of any payments being collected.

What kind of tournaments does WUWU play in?

WUWU plays in local Midwest tournaments as well as occasionally traveling further field for larger national tournaments like College Nationals or Regionals. At these tournaments/league play events, our team participates against other college teams from across the country ranging from Division 1 to Division 3 schools so that we can better challenge ourselves by competing against players from different skill levels.

You can email [email protected] directly with any questions or concerns you may have related to joining or playing on our team! Alternatively, current members can speak directly to one of our coaches at practice.

: How often do practices take place?

During Fall and Spring semesters practices usually run twice weekly on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 7-9 pm at Millenium Field located off Skinker Blvd near Old Meramac Road (behind Forest Park). We offer additional drop-in pickup sessions several times each month both outdoors and indoors depending on weather conditions.

Yes — we offer summer clinics throughout June/July led by our experienced staff which are designed for those wishing to learn more about Ultimate Frisbee before joining a competitive team in the future! These clinics serve as introductory courses about throwing technique & strategy plus plenty of chances for fun scrimmages amongst all participants.

Yes — each season there are opportunities within our organization for individuals who would like demonstrations skills required both on & off the field as potential captains & leaders including managing spirit circles & handshake lines after every game while leading our squad onto victory!
