History

WSGW began broadcasting in 1948 as WKNX-AM 1230, a full service AM radio station based out of Saginaw, Michigan. In 1979, it was acquired by Mid-West Family Broadcasting which changed its format from full service to Contemporary Hits. After the acquisition, the call letters were changed to WSGW (standing for “Saginaw’s Great Westside”) to better reflect its new sound and location along Saginaw's westside. In 1984, Mid-West Family Broadcasting also added WSGW’s FM sister station at 100.5 FM which broadcasts at a higher power than most radio stations in the market due to Saginaw being located between several major cities such as Detroit and Flint. Since then, both stations have served as one entity representing mid-Michigan by delivering quality local programming while also providing national content from ESPN Radio Network and other syndicated shows.

Programming

WSGW broadcasts a mix of classic hits from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's along with sports programming from ESPN Radio Network including play-by-play coverage of all Detroit Tigers baseball games and Detroit Red Wings hockey games in addition to college football games from across the country on Saturdays during the fall season. The weekday lineup includes two morning shows—The John Morris Show featuring talk about local issues mixed with news updates from around mid–Michigan every hour followed by Mornings with Amy & Chris featuring entertaining conversations about current pop culture topics like movies & music—along with before–and–afternoon drive shows as well as an evening program called The Night Show hosted by popular disc jockey Dave Marshall playing classic rock songs all night long.
