What does BIED mean in DEVELOPMENT

BRAC Institute of Educational Development (IED) is an independent research and training institute dedicated to improving access to quality education in Bangladesh. It focuses on research, policy analysis, capacity building, and knowledge sharing across the education sector.

BRAC IED serves the government and private sector stakeholders involved in pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary education in Bangladesh. This includes students, teachers, parents, administrators at all levels of education from pre-primary through to higher education institutions

The primary objective of BRAC IED is to contribute to creating an equitable and inclusive learning environment for all by providing evidence-based solutions through research, capacity building and policy advocacy. Other than that it works to improve teaching methodology and pedagogy in classrooms; bring innovative solutions that can help strengthen learning outcomes; monitor and evaluate interventions; provide advisory services on effective use of technology; facilitate dialogue among different stakeholders in the education sector; etc.

BRAC IED offers a range of support services including but not limited to technical advice on reforms; evidence gathering for informed decisions making; software development for learning assessment and evaluation systems; implementation support for new initiatives like school mapping or school health monitoring systems; condition surveys for educational infrastructure projects etc.

To collect data for our research activities we primarily rely on survey tools such as interviews with experts or stakeholders or questionnaires distributed among different groups which are then analyzed using quantitative methods like descriptive statistics, regression analysis or other relevant methodologies. Additionally we use secondary sources such as existing literature review, informal conversations with stakeholders etc.

Yes! We do engage in policy advocacy initiatives through our interactions with key policy makers as well as other opinion leaders who have influence over decision making processes related to educational policies in Bangladesh.

Yes! We provide various trainings on teaching methodology and pedagogy which equips teachers with the necessary knowledge & skills required to facilitate more effective learning experiences in classrooms. We also offer workshops aimed at developing leadership qualities amongst classroom educators so that they can be able lead their schools more effectively.

We conduct qualitative & quantitative research activities mainly focusing on issues such as teacher absenteeism & mobility, student attendance & achievement gaps between students from rural vs urban areas. We also investigate how educational technology can be used more effectively within classrooms & impact student performance.

Yes! Through our internship program we invite amateur researchers from all disciplines who want to gain experience working with a research institution while contributing towards solving real world educational problems.
