History
WMR was founded in 1977 by current owner Sir Frank Williams and British engineer Patrick Head, who had previously worked together at Frank Williams Racing Cars. During its debut year, the young team achieved impressive results, taking pole position at Spa-Francorchamps and two points finishes at Monaco and Watkins Glen. In 1979, they signed Australian driver Alan Jones to drive for them full-time; with his help they secured their first win later that year at Silverstone. This was to be only the beginning of a long period of success for the British team as they went on to achieve five consecutive Drivers’ and seven Constructors’ Championship titles between 1980-97.
