What does WID mean in COMMUNITY

Women In Development is an international movement which seeks to achieve gender equality in all aspects of development. It was established to recognize the huge contributions of women in every society. WID promotes greater inclusion of women into the economic, political and social spheres by providing resources and support for their advancement.

WID believes that the inclusion and empowerment of women will lead to more meaningful economic, social and political progress. This includes ensuring equal access to education, employment opportunities and financial resources. It also works towards creating a fairer system which prevents discrimination based on gender.

Advocacy efforts from WID are mostly directed towards understanding and addressing structural inequalities in socio-economic contexts that disproportionately affect women's lives around the world. These include topics like violence against women, economic disparities between men and women, healthcare rights, early marriage and educational neglect.
