What does WIC mean in STATE & LOCAL

WIC stands for Women, Infants and Children. It is a federally funded nutrition assistance program designed to provide supplemental nutrition to low-income pregnant women, breastfeeding women, postpartum women, infants and children younger than 5 years old who are at nutritional risk.

WIC provides nutritious foods such as infant formula and cereals, juice and other fruits/vegetables appropriate for young children's diets. In some cases they also provide breastfeeding support services.

Eligibility requirements vary by state, but generally you must be a US citizen or permanent resident living in the US; meet specific income guidelines; AND be considered “at nutritional risk” by a health professional or doctor.
