What does WGTA mean in EDUCATIONAL

The West Genesee Teachers' Association (WGTA) was founded to advance the interests of its members and serve their professional development needs. Our mission is to ensure that the work being done every day by our members in classrooms makes a lasting impact on our students. We strive to promote excellence in education and advocate for the rights of all educators and the best practices for children.

WGTA provides a variety of services for its members, such as professional development opportunities, contract negotiation support, legal advice, and political advocacy at the local and state levels. We also offer members access to discounted insurance products, such as health insurance, liability protection, and life insurance.

Membership in WGTA is open to teachers K-12 employed in West Genesee Central School District or retired from service with said district. If you are interested in joining WGTA as a voting member, please submit an application via our website and confirm your membership through payment of dues once approved. An annual membership fee applies.

Yes! Throughout the year, WGTA hosts various events for our members such as workshops on topics like classroom management techniques or curriculum planning strategies; conferences on special education issues; networking socials; and awards ceremonies honoring excellence in teaching.

We advocate for policies that are beneficial to educators as well as student learning outcomes at both the state and local levels through our dedicated Legislative Committee. Our legislative efforts aim to ensure public schools receive adequate resources from government agencies to provide quality instruction to students across New York State.

Members can get involved by volunteering for committees or attending meetings hosted by either the district or union representatives. Also be sure to check out our website regularly for updates on upcoming events we’ll be hosting that you may want to participate in!

Absolutely! Our union has numerous leadership opportunities available including committee chairs, officers, delegates/delegation chairs, collective bargaining representatives, executive board members, newsletter editors/writers etc., that are open each year during election season (January-March). We highly encourage active participation within our organization from all levels!
