What does WBF mean in BOXING

World Boxing refers to the combat sport of boxing, which involves two opponents competing in a match to determine who is the better boxer. The aim of boxing is to score more points than your opponent through punches, jabs and other offensive moves. The match usually ends when one fighter can no longer defend himself or if the referee stops the fight due to one fighter gaining an advantage.

There are 17 designated weight classes throughout professional boxing across all its organizations. These range from light flyweight to Super heavyweight, with each class having its own championship belt. Boxers may have different weights while training for a fight depending on their body composition, but will need to make sure they meet the weight requirements set out by the governing body for official fights.

In professional boxing, matches are won by either knockout (where one boxer knocks out their opponent and it is determined that they cannot continue), technical knockout (where a referee or doctor determines that one boxer cannot continue) or judge decision (where 3 judges independently score the bout and come up with a winner). If all rounds are completed without any of these conditions occuring then it will be declared a draw.

Generally speaking, boxers must abide by safety protocols such as wearing padded gloves and headgear during bouts. Offensive moves that involve hitting below the belt or punching using any other parts of your body besides your gloves is strictly prohibited. Referees also have disciplinary levers which they can use if any other rules are broken such as illegal holding and pushing.

Professional boxing has been known to cause injuries ranging from minor cuts and bruises, to more serious injuries such as concussions and broken bones. However these risks can be minimised through protective equipment like headgear being worn during fights, as well as medical staff being present should anything serious occur during a bout.

Usually fighters must be 18 years old before they can compete in most professional bouts. However some organizations may allow younger boxers with parental consent whilst others may not accept anyone above a certain age limit dependent on regulations set by each organization

There have been countless names throughout history who have made their mark in world boxing including iconic champions like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Robinson. More recently there have been other stars such as Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.
