What does WBCI mean in LABORATORY

Warm Blood Cardioplegic Induction (WBCI) is a procedure to temporarily stop the heart from pumping by introducing a potassium-rich fluid called cardioplegia. The procedure is used for surgeries on the heart, coronary arteries and associated structures including valves, such as during a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

WBCI works by flooding the heart with potassium-rich cardioplegia, which disrupts the electrical signals that cause the heart to contract. This results in cardiac arrest, allowing surgeons to perform operations with more freedom and accuracy.
