What does VVA mean in DISEASES

VVA is typically caused by a decline in estrogen production that occurs naturally during menopause. Estrogen helps keep the vaginal tissues healthy and lubricated, so without it these tissues become very thin and dry.

Common symptoms of VVA include itching, burning, dryness, pain or discomfort during intercourse or other genital contact, light bleeding after intercourse or pelvic exams, and urinary urgency or frequency.

Treatment for VVA typically involves either topical medications such as vaginal creams, tablets or rings to increase estrogen levels in the vagina, or systemic treatments such as oral hormone replacement therapy which addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of menopause.

In addition to medications there are also lifestyle changes you can make to help manage your symptoms such as staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water; avoiding douching; using mild soaps with no dyes; and wearing cotton undergarments rather than synthetic fabrics. Other suggestions include avoiding hot baths or sitting for long periods of time when possible; using lubricants during intercourse; and practicing relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation.
