What does VOP mean in PHYSIOLOGY

VOP stands for Venous Occlusion Plethysmography and it is a non-invasive method of assessing blood circulation in the body.

During a VOP test, a cuff filled with air is placed around the affected area and then inflated. The pressure created by this inflation allows doctors to assess the flow rate and pressure of blood circulating throughout the body.

VOP can be used to assess circulatory health in many different situations, including diagnosing circulatory issues like venous insufficiency, evaluating capillary health, determining areas of pooling or stagnation in the veins, and monitoring changes in circulation over time.

The main advantage of using VOP over more invasive methods for measuring circulation is that it does not involve any type of surgery or special preparation for testing. Additionally, since it measures only pressure, it avoids introducing large amounts of fluid into the body which could create other problems.

Generally speaking, no pain or discomfort should be experienced when undergoing a standard VOP examination. Some minor sensations may occur due to slight discomfort caused by inflating the cuff around your limb but this generally subsides quickly upon deflation.
