What does BFS mean in FOOD & NUTRITION

BFS provides resources to increase access to healthy and affordable food within the Greater Boston area. This includes partnerships with local and national food service providers, support for urban agriculture initiatives, nutrition education programs, community outreach activities, and more.

Urban agriculture is a term used to refer to cultivation of plants in an urban or suburban environment such as community gardens or other forms of sustainable agriculture. By engaging in urban agriculture, communities can both personally benefit from fresh produce while also preserving green spaces near population centers.

BFS works to decrease food insecurity in Boston by providing resources that support a thriving local food system. These include promoting culinary education that teaches nutritious cooking techniques; collaborating with government programs like SNAP and WIC; advocating for public policies that increase access to fresh produce;and developing marketing campaigns that encourage healthy eating habits.
