Villum Kann Rasmussen was born in 1909 in North Jutland, Denmark. He started working early on in life by helping his father run their local grocery store. It wasn't until 1949 that he founded VKR Holding A/S, a holding company which later grew into a conglomerate with interests in wood business, metalworking and insulation among many others. With such vast resources at his disposal, VKR invested heavily in creating new products while also encouraging employees to come up with new ideas. In time this allowed him to develop some of the most innovative products of its time including plastic packaging materials and luminous paints among other things.
