The Vancouver Girls Softball Association (VGSA) is a non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for girls of all ages to learn and play the sport of softball in a fun and safe environment. VGSA volunteers offer a variety of leagues and skills development camps to ensure each girl has the best experience possible.
Is there an age requirement to participate in VGSA programs?
Yes, participants must be aged 4-18 to be eligible for VGSA programs. Most of our leagues are reserved for girls aged 8-15, however please contact us directly if your daughter is outside this age bracket as we may still be able to accommodate her.
Is any experience needed to join a VGSA team?
No, softball experience is not required. All skill levels are welcome at the VGSA and our coaches are dedicated to helping each player develop their skills. Additionally, we have multiple skill development camps available throughout the year which can help players of any level think like an experienced athlete on the field!
Does my daughter need her own equipment?
No, it’s not necessary for players joining VGSA teams to have their own equipment. However, having access to her own glove and bat can help improve performance on the field and give her confidence!
Where do games take place?
Games take place at local diamonds throughout Vancouver including Killarney Park, Kensington Park, Sunset Park, and Renfrew Park. Competitions against other leagues may also take place outside of these locations depending on location availability or special tournaments run by our association.
Are games held indoors or outdoors?
All games with VGSA are held outdoors in dry weather conditions only. If wet weather is forecasted then coaches will decide whether or not games will go ahead depending on suitability of diamond conditions. Make sure you check email or SMS updates from your coach regularly just in case playing times change last minute due to bad weather.
How long does registration last?
Registration typically begins around April/May each year for summer sessions and October/November for winter sessions but dates can vary so make sure you check our website regularly for updated information! Also keep an eye out for pre-registration discounts available before these times.
Is my registration fee refundable?
We understand that schedules can change in light of unexpected events throughout the season; therefore we allow full or partial refunds should you choose to withdraw prior to kickoff depending on specific circumstances (i.e., if we had already purchased kit/products etc). Any refund requests must be submitted before May 1st for summer sessions and November 1st for winter sessions.
What do I need to bring on game day?
Players will need comfortable playing gear including shorts/tights or pants suitable for running around in plus runners/trainers appropriate for outdoor surfaces as well as sunscreen lotion, water bottles, snacks as well as their uniforms issued by their team coach (these kits usually include t-shirts and caps).
Does VGS provide insurance cover?
Yes, VGS provides Sacred Heart Insurance cover which covers accidents occurred while participating in VGS activities or while using VGS facilities with no extra cost – this includes passive injuries such as contestants getting sick during training/games etc.
