What does VDRF mean in MEDICAL

Common causes of VDRF include pneumonia, COPD, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), chronic lung disease, neuromuscular diseases or interstitial lung disease. Certain types of medication and other medical conditions can also play a role in developing this health issue.

Symptoms of VDRF may include shortness of breath, increased heart rate, chest pain or discomfort, coughing up blood, fatigue or confusion and changes in mental state.

Diagnosis starts with a physical examination and history review done by your doctor. Tests such as x-rays and CT scans may be done to get more information about the lungs and other organs. Your doctor may also order blood tests to check for infection or abnormal results that could indicate another underlying cause of the respiratory failure.

Treatment for VDRF typically begins with supplemental oxygen therapy to help improve oxygen levels in the body.The patient may be placed on a mechanical ventilator if their breathing difficulty becomes unresponsive to oxygen therapy alone. Medications such as diuretics and bronchodilators may also be used to reduce fluid buildup in the lungs while helping them stay open so air can flow more easily. Other treatments such as pulmonary rehabilitation can also be beneficial in improving lung function overtime.

Prolonged use of ventilators can lead to further problems such as decreased energy levels, muscle atrophy, increased risk of infection due to time spent on ventilators and additional complications related to immobility such as pressure sores or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
