What does UGM mean in UNIONS

Definition

UGM stands for “Union Guerrera Mexicana” which translates to “Mexican Warrior Union” in English. It is a grassroots organization founded in 2010 that promotes the political, economic, and social development of all citizens of Mexico. It does this by organizing protests, engaging in militant activities such as guerrilla warfare against the government if necessary, and lobbying elected officials for changes that would benefit its members and those it represents. The main goal of UGM is to establish equitable socio-economic policies that will combat poverty, improve educational systems, create job opportunities for underrepresented minorities in Mexico, protect civil liberties across all levels of society, preserve Indigenous culture and provide access to affordable healthcare for all citizens regardless of race or ethnicity.

Significant Activities

Since its inception in 2010, UGM has been involved with several significant initiatives. It works closely with other organizations on projects like “Proyecto Milagro” (Project Miracle), which seeks to address poverty in rural Mexico by providing loans to small business owners so they can expand their operations. Similarly “The Marta Acosta Project” assists Indigenous women who are struggling financially due to lack of access to resources or jobs; this project provides economic opportunities through training programs and education grants. In addition to these two initiatives UGM also runs several campaigns targeting human rights violations throughout México; among these are campaigns focused on challenging police brutality towards Indigenous peoples and addressing incidences of gender violence throughout the country.
