The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 28 member states in Europe. The EU was established with the aim of promoting peace, security and economic cooperation between its members. It also provides a common set of rules, regulations and standards for its member countries to follow. The EU works to promote economic growth, create jobs, foster social inclusion, protect the environment and ensure consumer protection.

The European Union is made up of a series of institutions that work together to set policies and laws for all member countries. These institutions include the Council of Ministers, which sets policy; the European Parliament, which makes laws; the European Commission, which acts as executive arm; and the Court of Justice, which interprets law. All decisions taken by these institutions must comply with EU treaties.

The main decision-makers in the European Union are composed of representatives from each member state. These representatives make up three main bodies within the EU ––the Council of Ministers, the European Parliament and the European Commission. Each body has its own role within decision making processes at both national and international levels.

An EU Member State is any country that has joined and ratified a treaty declaring it as part of the European Union. There are many advantages to being an EU Member State including access to a large single market without trade barriers or restrictions on goods or services; greater freedom for citizens to move around Europe for work or study; easier access to public services such as healthcare; more economic investment from other Member States into your country; stronger representation on global issues such as climate change or international trade negotiations; access to research funds for education development; more job opportunities due to increased business activity between countries; and increased political stability through collaboration between nations on major global issues.

Brexit is a shortened version of “British exit” that refers to when Britain left (exited) from membership in the European Union in 2020 following a 2016 referendum vote amongst British citizens where 51% voted in favour of leaving over remaining within membership status in 30 June 2020 . This marked another landmark moment in Britain’s relationship with Europe since it joined what was then known as “the Common Market” in 1973.

The laws created by members of all three institutions ––the Council Of Ministers, Parliament & Commission ––constitute what is known as ‘EU Law' . This law applies equally across every nation inside its borders with no exceptions & no opt-outs . This includes areas like free movement (citizens from any member state can move freely without restriction), food safety (which sets standards & limits on additives & contaminants ), consumer rights , public health , environment , agriculture & energy.
