History
TILB began with just twelve founding members in 1929. The community had its humble beginnings meeting out of homes until 1933 when it moved into the Congregational Church of St. James in East Norwich. The first permanent building was dedicated on Thanksgiving Day 1941 at 3 Central Park Avenue in East Norwich as a memorial for its founding member and president Louis Blumenfeld. Over the years the congregation grew larger and went through many changes such as beginning services on Fridays and moving from Conservative Judaism to Orthodox Judaism before returning back to Conservative Judaism in 1999. In 2011 TILB found itself needing more space which led to them buying their current building on Merrick Road which they have been using since then.
