What Does THES Mean? The acronym THES stands for the Toronto Hydro Electric System. As the name suggests, this organization is responsible for providing electric power to various parts of the city of Toronto. It was established in 1906 by three companies

Metropolitan Power Company Ltd., Northern Electric Light & Power Co., and Woods Manufacturing & Power Co. The company has since merged with other utilities in the area such as Enwave Energy Corporation, which now supplies parts of downtown Toronto and other areas with district energy services. Toronto Hydro-Electric System owns and maintains about 50 hydroelectric generating stations throughout Ontario that have a combined capacity of 1,003 MW (megawatts). In addition to the generation of electricity from its own sources, it purchases power from external sources such as nuclear power plants operated by Ontario Power Generation or wind farms owned by independent energy producers. The company also provides transmission of electricity through its high-voltage network, which consists of more than 678 kilometres (420 miles) of overhead lines and underground cables that transmit electricity from generating stations to substations located throughout much of metropolitan Toronto.
